Meghan Markle Accuses UK Tabloid Of THREATENING To Reveal Names Of Her Friends Who Spoke For Their Cover Story- Reports
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot in 2018 and soon after three months, the former Suits actress took legal action against British newspaper and its publisher Associated Newspapers for publishing excerpts from her letter sent to her father Thomas Markle. The reason behind Meghan’s decision of taking legal action against the newspapers was as the letter to her father was ‘private and confidential.’ Now, reportedly, Meghan Markle is taking action against British newspaper as they threatened they would reveal the names of friends who spoke in her support.

According to a report in People.com, in a statement, Meghan Markle filed an application at the High Court in London writing about the British newspaper threatening to publish the names of the five women, who spoke in her support. Meghan’s application read, “Associated Newspapers, the owner of The Daily Mail and the Mail on Sunday, is threatening to publish the names of five women—five private citizens—who made a choice on their own to speak anonymously with a U.S. media outlet more than a year ago, to defend me from the bullying behaviour of Britain’s tabloid media.”

The former Suits actress continued to explain how the five women are neither on trial, and nor is she, but mentioned how the publisher of the Mail on Sunday, the one on trial is acting unlawfully and is attempting to evade accountability just to create a circus and distract everyone from the actual case of the letter. She mentioned how each one of the five women is a private citizen, young mother, and each has a basic right to privacy.

Meghan Markle then continued, “The Mail on Sunday is playing a media game with real lives,” and accused them of trying to reveal the names only for clickbait reasons. She then requested the court to treat her application as a legal matter with the sensitivity it deserves, preventing the publisher from releasing the names of the five anonymous women. ITV News reported that the spokesperson for the British newspaper issued a statement in which they mentioned that they had no intention of publishing the identities of Meghan Markle’s five friends.  But continued to share that as their evidence is the heart of the case, they see no reason that the identities should be kept a secret.

Meanwhile, as per The Mail on Sunday, Meghan’s father Thomas Markle shared the contents in the letter after a friend of the actress mentioned its existence in an interview. It was back in 2019 when five of the close friends of the actress spoke with People Magazine for a cover story. The letter sent by Meghan Markle was first referred to in February 2019 when Meghan’s five friends spoke about global bullying and said it was aimed at her.
